Oilcloth tablecloths vs. Coated tablecloths

Tablecloths have a key function: to protect our tables from stains, bumps, and heat from dishes.

But they have an extra benefit, which is that they can also be an aesthetic element that allows us to redecorate our spaces as many times as we want, and give them a new look.

Traditionally, tablecloths have been made of fabric without any type of finish or coating, but it is true that they are usually very complicated to wash, stains are difficult to remove, and their durability depends a lot on the use they are given.

Over the years, resin-coated tablecloths have become more popular. They came to stay and to make our lives a little easier.

Stain-resistant tablecloths, as their name suggests, have the particularity that they are made with textile materials.

They also have a coating that can be plasticized or resin, which, in principle, will make them waterproof, thus preventing liquids and dirt from staining them.

But what makes them so popular?

Simple, their practicality. When it comes to cleaning, they can save us a lot of headaches, make our lives easier, and also provide greater protection for our tables.

They repel liquids, dirt, and grease, they clean up with just a damp cloth, and the maintenance they require is practically nil because they don't need to be washed or ironed.

They are the perfect solution when we want to enjoy a beautiful table every day without having to worry about cleaning.

You can find these stain-resistant tablecloths in Oilcloth or Resin-coated Fabric.

What is the difference between them?

Resin-coated tablecloths are made with a linen or cotton fabric that has a resin or Teflon coating, which helps to waterproof the fabric, prevents the absorption of stains, and keeps dirt and moisture from ruining them.

This coating will also help them not wrinkle and not require as much washing. They also have great durability over time.

Teflon does not disappear with cleaning or washing.

Oilcloth tablecloths are plasticized, which also makes them completely waterproof. However, being plastic, they are much stiffer than resin-coated ones, so they do not drape.

This means their appearance is not very aesthetic and they are not pleasant to the touch. Furthermore, if stored with too many folds, they could end up being completely damaged.

Both have the great advantage that they can be cleaned very easily.

They do not need to be ironed as they do not wrinkle, but in the case of resin-coated tablecloths, heat can be applied periodically to reactivate the Teflon, unlike oilcloth tablecloths which CANNOT be ironed under any circumstances.

Resin-coated tablecloths are much more attractive than oilcloth tablecloths, as their texture is pleasant to the touch and visually they do not have that plasticized look; in fact, the finish is very elegant and you can find them in different textile bases: cotton, linen, silk, etc.

They come in a wide variety of colors, designs, and prints.

At La Compañía Francesa, all our stain-resistant tablecloths are resin-coated. They are the best option for achieving an elegant table while no longer having to worry about stains and cleaning.
