The Story of La Compañía Francesa

Hello everyone, I'm Margarita Cano, founder of La Compañía Francesa. I'm going to tell you about the origins of the store, in 2001.

Although I studied veterinary medicine due to my love for animals and nature, a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) quickly led me down the entrepreneurial path.

The idea for Compañía Francesa arose from accompanying my husband, an antique dealer by profession, on his business trips to Provence, and spending summers in Biarritz and Brittany. If you've been to Provence, you'll know that it's like an immense garden framed by the Alps. An open-air museum full of lavender fields that captivated the most celebrated painters.

I was in love with the landscapes. I identified with French culture, the good taste at the table, and the French savoir-faire. Gastronomy is inseparable from the French way of life. However, in addition to cooking, one of my passions, I consider the art of the table to be of great importance. Each trip I made to France brought more and more tablecloths, antique embroidered napkins, fabrics, and candles back to Madrid.

The next step was to open the store to work on something that brought me immense satisfaction. La Compañía Francesa started in 2000 with the aim of bringing the French art of the table closer to decoration lovers in Spain. Since 2020, we have also been selling online, with the aim of reaching more homes.

La Compañía Francesa, more than a store, is for me a way of life, a meeting point for decoration lovers, for those of us who seek to turn our house into a home, and for those of us who enjoy entertaining guests at home or in the garden.
