What is placed under the tablecloth on a dining table?
Underneath the tablecloth on the dining room table, the moleskin is placed, a protective fabric that helps preserve the table's surface and enhances the dining experience.
Protecting your table is as important as choosing your tablecloth.
What is moleskin?
Moleskin is a thick, fuzzy fabric, usually cotton with a waterproof side, which is placed between the table and the tablecloth to protect the surface, with the plasticized side facing up.
What is moleskin used for?
Moleskin serves to protect the table from spilled liquids and excessive heat from dishes or platters. Additionally, it muffles the sound of plates, glasses, and cutlery, and provides a soft feel, enhancing the dining experience.

How to place moleskin on the table:
We will let the moleskin hang a little over the sides of the table and at the ends, so that it also gives a soft feel to the tablecloth vertically. The moleskin should measure only 15 centimeters more than your table or 10 centimeters less than the tablecloth, so that it is always hidden under the tablecloth.
Some tips for using it:
-
Ensure the Moleskin is the Right Size: It should cover the entire table surface but without hanging over the edges.
-
Place the Waterproof Side Up: This will protect the table from spills and make cleaning easier.
-
Smooth the Moleskin before Placing the Tablecloth: Avoid wrinkles or creases that could affect the table's presentation.
-
Center the Moleskin on the Table: Make sure it is evenly distributed for optimal protection.
- If Necessary, Secure the Moleskin: Use double-sided tape at the corners if the moleskin tends to slide.
I am absolutely convinced that moleskin is that piece that should never be missing from your table, a true before and after. Try it and tell me what you think!
Kisses,
Marga
