Guide on how to cut a tablecloth for a round table

If you've ever tried to put a rectangular tablecloth on a round table, you'll know what happens... There's fabric hanging everywhere, and the result is, shall we say, less than aesthetically pleasing. It's happened to me more than once, and I ended up with the tablecloth corners almost touching the floor. So today, I'm going to tell you how to cut a tablecloth for a round table easily and quickly, so that next time, your table looks perfect without that "waterfall" of fabric.

  1. Measure and cut, but without stress!

The first step is to measure the diameter of the table. Don't forget to add between 20 and 25 cm for the drop so that the tablecloth hangs elegantly. For example, if your table is 1 meter in diameter, cut a 1.50 m circle of fabric. And if you're bad at measuring, like me, you can always ask someone for help. I usually turn to my husband, who has a perfect eye for these things... (although, between you and me, sometimes it ends up being more than I wanted).

  1. The string or pencil trick

I'm going to confess something: I'm terrible at cutting in a straight line, so to avoid ending up with a "crooked" tablecloth, I use the string or pencil trick. Tie a pencil to the end of a string the length you need and, from the center of the fabric, draw a perfect circle. It's foolproof! And if you're feeling more daring, you can do it without string... but I prefer not to risk it, do you?

  1. Don't forget the hem

The hem is important! If you have a sewing machine, great, but if you're like me and sewing isn't your thing, you can also use adhesive hemming tape. I discovered it a few years ago, and it saved my life (and a few tablecloths). Plus, it won't take you more than 10 minutes. And if you opt for a linen tablecloth from La Compañía Francesa, you've already done half the work, because these linen tablecloths, in addition to being elegant, are made of strong and resistant fibers, their filaments are long and soft, which allows scissors to pass through them without much resistance.

  1. What about the fabric?

Opt for fabrics with some body, like linen or cotton, but that are also easy to wash. The beige linen tablecloths we have in the store are perfect, I promise they'll withstand all family meals and still look like new! Plus, linen is so versatile that you can use it for both indoor and outdoor tables.

  1. Finishing touches

Now for the fun part! Decorate your round table with some beautiful centerpieces. I like to use low vases (so you don't block anyone's view) or even small bouquets of wildflowers. If you stop by La Compañía Francesa's decoration section, you'll find some colorful mini-vases that are perfect for this. They add a touch of freshness without cluttering the table, and allow you to play with different flowers or branches depending on the season.
